a Psalm-like cry.

December 3, 2011

why are you downcast, O my soul?
why so disturbed within me?
put your hope in God,
for i will yet praise Him,
my Savior and my God. 42:5-6

Lord, i call You out in my distress
where are You? are You watching me?
turn Your ears to me, O God.
You say You will only give a task that i can handle
but why then is so hard for me?
You say You are my strength
then why am i so weak?
You say You are Love,
why is my heart full of agony/despair?

You say You are working for my good
but it does not feel like it at the moment
You say You will be glorified through me
but i just can’t see it how now
You say You are with me; come quick O Lord.
like the Psalmist, i want to praise You in the end of this song.

turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
the troubles of my heart have
free me from my anguish 25:16-17

i read your Psalm book #23 like
‘i will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.’
but my heart does not settle in peace.

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger
or discipline me in Your wrath.
Be merciful to me, Lord, for i am faint; 6:1-2a

i am spitting words in my mourn
but Lord, do not take words from this fool’s mouth,
let them be blown away by the wind
for it is my heart… please search Your servant’s heart.

help me remember Your ultimate salvation through Jesus,
give ear to me so that i can listen to Your heart once again
and let Your love overflow through me
put a smile on my face because You know i am too ugly without smiling.

i will use this day to glorify You, Lord
i will remember that You are with me
i will testify that i have tasted and seen that the Lord is good.
for ‘the Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ 34:18

You have made known to me the path of life;
You will fill me with joy in Your presence,
with eternal pleasures at Your right hand. 16:11

then ‘ why are you downcast, O my soul?
why so disturbed within me?

put your hope in God,
for i will yet praise Him, my savior and my God.’ 42:11

John Piper – When we think and feel with God in the Psalms, this is the main result: We come to love God, and we want to see God and be with God and be satisfied in admiring and exulting in God.
